Participants

The J-1 Internship Program is a cultural exchange program by the U.S. Department of State, which allows full time students, recent graduates or your professionals from around the world to come to the U.S. and share their ideas and culture while receiving in-depth know-how training in American company throughout the United States for up to 12 months.

The primary objective of the J-1 Intern/Trainee Program is to enhance the skills and expertise of exchange visitors in their academic or occupational fields through participation in structured and guided work-based training and internship programs, and to improve participants’ knowledge of American techniques, methodologies, and technology.

Such training and internship programs are also intended to increase participants’ understanding of American culture and society and to enhance Americans’ knowledge of foreign cultures and skills through an open interchange of ideas between participants and their American associates.

Internship Program Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in university/college and studying towards a degree /associate, bachelor or master/ or towards a certificate /minimum of 2 years certificate program/ or have graduated from one no more than 12 months prior to the program start date
  • Age between 18 and 32
  • Fluent in English

 

Traineeship Program Requirements:

  • Have at least 5 years of full-time work experience in the occupational field outside of the USA

OR

  • Have graduated in university/college more than 12 months prior to the program start date and  have at least 12 months current experience in the occupational field as the Traineeship prior to the program start date

Additional Requirements:

  • Be flexible in general and especially in terms of location and host
  • Be willing to learn
  • Have sufficient funds /recommended 800 USD/ to support you for the first weeks of your training or have access to such funds
  • Please remember the goals of the program and be ready to prove that you have the intention to return home after completing the program
